JUST IN . . .

Right after my last post, Nelishia told me she had received an e-mail alert from BREAKING CHRISTIAN NEWS that Senator Obama's grandmother, who was instrumental in raising him, had passed away today after fighting cancer.

Prayer Alert: Barack Obama's Grandmother—Who Essentially Raised Him—Has Died
by Aimee Herd : Nov 3, 2008 : AP, FOXNews.com

"She was the cornerstone of our family, and a woman of extraordinary accomplishment, strength, and humility…"

Breaking Christian News has chosen throughout this election season to remain non-partisan—with the unapologetic exception of support for life and family-values issues. As we would send out an alert for prayers of comfort for President Bush or Sen. McCain if warranted, we likewise send this prayer alert on behalf of the family of Sen. Barack Obama, as his grandmother passed away today.

Madelyn Dunham, who was 86, was visited by her grandson, Barack, last month, when he left the campaign trail briefly to be by her side in Hawaii. Dunham died this morning, after a prolonged battle with cancer.

According to reports, Dunham was an integral part of the now presidential candidate's upbringing. Sen. Obama and his sister issued a joint statement in light of the news today, saying, "She was the cornerstone of our family, and a woman of extraordinary accomplishment, strength, and humility. She was the person who encouraged and allowed us to take chances."

I extend my condolences to Senator Obama and his family, and keeping them in my prayers during this time.

That's real sweet and Christlike Dirk. I hope all Christians can take the time to keep the Obama's in their prayers. I was thinking this has got to be very hard, at this time especially. If he wins, she won't get to see it. which is sad. If he doesn't win, he won't be able to talk to her about it either. I do feel for him, and pray they can know God's comfort an peace. Thank you Dirk. God Bless~ Carolyn

My heart and prayers go out to Barrack and his family. I'm glad he got to visit a couple days ago before she passed on.

i know well how it feels to lose a grandparent who raised you. I can not imagine what Obama is feeling today without her still on earth.

Very nice. A person that I spoke with today actually believes that Obama only spent 15 minutes with her, when he visited a couple of weeks ago. The rest of the time was spent campaigning, she says. I can't believe that someone is actually passing that around.

I thought how tragic it was she didn't get the chance to see him sworn into the highest office in our country.

You are a class act Dirk for sharing these sentiments and I am soooo sorry I haven't been here until now.
