NOW THEY WANT TO TAX WHAT????

This has to be the most insane tax proposal since taxing rainwater became popular a few years ago with state and local governments.  Now, Washington wants to levy a tax on the miles you drive.

That's right, under this proposal, a device would be installed on your car that would record the number of miles you drive.  When you visit the gas station, the tax would be paid electronically there as the gas station would have equipment to read how many miles you had driven.  The Congressional Budget Office refers to it as a Vehicle Miles Traveled tax.  In March of this year, the CBO supported it as a way for our out of control Federal government to dig even deeper into our pockets and keep on with their obscene spending.

Senate Budget Committee Chairman KENT CONRAD, Democrat (of course) from North Dakota, has asked for the report and has proposed this tax as a way to raise more Federal highway revenues.  If this passes, states that depend heavily on tourism traffic such as Florida can kiss their state economies good-bye.

What free country? Obama wants to track your car mileage

Rick Moran

This idea was floated last year but the reaction to it was so negative it disappeared.

But with the deficit and debt climbing, Washington is desperate for extra cash to spend, so it is apparently being revived. In essence, the government wants to slap a a special tracking device in your car that would record the mileage you use, and then tax it. You'd pay the tax when you fill up at gas stations who also, we would assume, have special equipment to read the mileage on the device in your car.

And if gas stations can read it, so can the government. And then there's the question of what other gizmos they might put in that device. GPS? Why not? Who's going to stop them?

The Obama administration denies that they are in favor of this, but several lawmakers have suggested it, as has the CBO. The Hill:

The Obama administration has floated a transportation authorization bill that would require the study and implementation of a plan to tax automobile drivers based on how many miles they drive.

The plan is a part of the administration's "Transportation Opportunities Act," an undated draft of which was obtained this week by Transportation Weekly.

The more innocuous sounding the title of the bill, the more a threat to American liberty.
March Congressional Budget Office report that supported the idea of taxing drivers based on miles driven.
Among other things, CBO suggested that a vehicle miles traveled (VMT) tax could be tracked by installing electronic equipment on each car to determine how many miles were driven; payment could take place electronically at filling stations.
The CBO report was requested by Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad (D-ND), who has proposed taxing cars by the mile as a way to increase federal highway revenues.
Obama's proposal seems to follow up on that idea in section 2218 of the draft bill. That section would create, within the Federal Highway Administration, a Surface Transportation Revenue Alternatives Office. It would be tasked with creating a "study framework that defines the functionality of a mileage-based user fee system and other systems."
The marriage of technology and injudicious taxes is a marriage made in hell.

EVER WONDER?

A friend of mine sent me this, and I thought it was very good and right on point.

Now it is our turn to bring "CHANGE" to Washington!!!

The 545 People Responsible For All Of U.S. Woes
Author Unknown
Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them. Have you ever wondered why, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, we have deficits? Have you ever wondered why, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, we have inflation and high taxes?
You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does. You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does. You and I don't write the tax code. Congress does. You and I don't set fiscal policy. Congress does. You and I don't control monetary policy. The Federal Reserve Bank does. One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president and nine Supreme Court justices - 545 human beings out of the 300 million - are directly, legally, morally and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.
I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered but private central bank. I excluded all but the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it.No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislation's responsibility to determine how he votes.
A CONFIDENCE CONSPIRACY
Don't you see how the con game that is played on the people by the politicians? Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party. The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.
The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating appropriations and taxes. Nancy Pelosi is the speaker of the House. She is the leader of the majority party. She and her fellow Democrats, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetos it, they can pass it over his veto. Sadly she has added to those deficits as well as our new President and Speaker Pelosi wrote most of these insane spending Bills with no regard to the cost to tax payers . So to speak, we have no hen guarding the American Tax Payers Chicken Coop and are as equally volatile hens as those in the age old Hen House.
REPLACE SCOUNDRELS
It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts - of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem, from an unfair tax code to defense overruns, that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.
If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair. If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red. If the Marines are in Iraq , it's because they want them in Iraq . There are no insoluble government problems.
Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take it. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exist disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation" or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.
Those 545 people and they alone are responsible. They and they alone have the power. They and they alone should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses - provided they have the gumption to manage their own employees. The next time you hear a politician say Exxon is "gouging" the public with a net profit of 8.2 % (in 2008) ,very low by any Business standards since computer software companies average 21-34 % and Google in 2007 made 512 %, remind your Senators and Congressman the Federal Government does not help Exxon at all and actually causes their cost to go up with countless regulations and makes "triple " as much profit as Exxon does for doing nothing. Remind them it is Congress that is ''gouging " the Tax Payers and the General Public .
YOU and I are the ONLY ones who can bring REAL change to Washington. As Congressional elections come up, if We The People don't stand up and vote a lot of these people out and send a message, then the Washington System will never change. Vote them out, and e-mail or send a letter letting them know why you're voting against them.
Even though it's not "election season" just yet, I'll go ahead and say it: VOTE. Vote every chance you get - locally, the State level, and Federal level. It's way past time we got rid of the corrupt Washington System and lying politicians.

THE OBAMA DECEPTION

Here is a movie that my wife sent me a few weeks ago. Don't judge the film by its title. The producers make it very clear early on this isn't about Conservative or Liberal, Democrat or Republican. It puts forth several ideas, but the main subject line is the New World Order that's being put into place. The subject matter is very serious, and at least some of the things shown threaten our very way of life. This is well worth watching. It's a full length movie, so grab a cup of coffee and relax awhile. I encourage you to watch the entire movie, and draw your own conclusions. And please share your conclusions!

If the movie won't play, here are a couple of links to it:

TIME FOR ANOTHER TEA PARTY!

Frances, who writes the MACHINEPOLITICK BLOG, made an interesting post yesterday. Please visit Frances. Her blog is an excellent read, and she recently started writing for MODERN CONSERVATIVE. She posts links to her articles there on Machine Politick.

What Frances posted about was an upcoming protest this Friday at 12:00 noon EST. This is a nationwide rally to protest the wasteful spending hidden in the so-called economic stimulus plan passed by Congress. This started in Chicago, and the actual site is in Chicago. Click HERE to go to the Chicago Tea Party site.

Like Frances, I'm very pleasantly surprised conservatives are protesting and that it's gained national attention. I hope this is just the start. Americans are fed up with an government that has grown too large and too powerful. Borrowing Frances's post title, Spread the Word and Spill Some Tea!

OBAMA MOCKS JOE THE PLUMBER (WHICH MEANS YOU AND I TOO)

For the past little while, I have been hearing about "Joe the Plumber". I had also heard the left ridiculing Senator McCain about this. Until this week, I didn't know the details on what this was all about. I didn't know that Joe the Plumber was actually a real person until today (you can laugh, here, it's OK!) I thought this was a term referring to a middle class working person. Not hard to tell that I haven't been following this one very well, LOL!!

I found this video which shows Joe the Plumber (Joe Wurzelbacher who is from Ohio) asking Obama about his tax plan. Joe confronts Obama by telling him he is about to purchase a company that earns a profit of about $250-280,000 per year. Obama's only answer was, "We've cut taxes a lot for people earning a lot more money than me." That did not answer the question obviously. It was a total evasion, because Obama was afraid of losing a vote here. The obvious answer is Joe would be paying a lot more in taxes and might not be able to afford to keep some of his employees, or maybe the business itself.

As you may know, Obama has been very vocal about not taxing anyone earning less than $250,000 per year. By the way, I'm inserting an "I told you so here". Obama has recently reduced this figure by saying,

"If you have a job, pay taxes, and make less than $200,000 a year, you'll get a tax cut."

Wait a minute! What happened to his vehement promise increasing the taxes on only those earning more than $250,000 per year??? Then, in a TV interview on WNEP in Scranton on October 27th, Senator Biden said,
"It should go like it used to. It should go to middle-class people, people making under $150,000 a year."

See what I mean about the "taxing only the rich" scheme? Just like former President Clinton, we will all become rich by Obama's definition. As I said in a recent post, history is trying to repeat itself here.

That was a sidenote, no extra charge, but it does apply here. Obama asks in this video, "How many plumbers do you know that make $250,000 per year?" His supporters laugh. Obama also ridicules Senator McCain for fighting for a plumber. The crowd laughs again. Can you see the attitude here? How can someone who works with his hands (eeeyewww!!!) possibly earn $250,000 per year? You don't have to read between the lines on this one. This is right out in the open.

We're not talking about Joe the Plumber per se. Joe the Plumber is representative of the American middle class. Joe here has a dream of a better life and wants to buy a plumbing company. Joe wanted to know from Obama about his wish to tax people more in that income bracket. I admire Joe for confronting Obama directly. This is something Americans everywhere should do and pin him down for an answer to questions about issues affecting the average American for whom the Democratic party supposedly advocates. The results would be very interesting and very revealing.

Something else I noticed here. Obama did not mock and ridicule Joe to his face. He did it after the fact, yet he was cordial and polite to Joe when Joe was standing right there. Talk about being two-faced! Obama can't deny it because he said it with the TV cameras rolling. If I were Obama's campaign manager, I would have had kittens and cows both on this one.

One last thing before the video. Obama asked the question, "How many plumbers do you know that earn more than $250,000 a year?"

(Raising my hand here). Photobucket

"Senator Obama, I do. Over ten years ago, a friend of mine who is a plumber, got one contract that paid around $600,000 to refurbish the plumbing system in a hotel that was being remodeled. This friend of mine is mostly a 'one man show', employing only a part-time helper. One contract, Mr. Obama. One man. A man who works for a living. Yes, Mr. Obama, it is possible for a working man to earn a good income. What say you, Mr. Obama?"
